ALEC

No one but Dell knew what I was doing so when I packed up to leave, and since I wanted to keep it a secret I actually had to pack like I was going on a mission and not just taking a little trip across town. I wished that Sam didn’t have the early shift today and that I could have given him a proper goodbye, but it was better this way. The more time we spent together the more likely I was to say fuck it and just spill the beans.

It was actually Dell’s idea to do the whole charade of leaving for a few days. She even volunteered to drive me so she could take a few hours and go off shopping by herself. Max’s birthday was actually not for months yet but she said she wanted to start shopping now and plus Christmas was before his birthday so she could start shopping for that too. I think she just wanted a few moments by herself.

Don’t get me wrong my sister loves her mates fiercely but after all those years of it just being her and Max I think she gets overwhelmed now and then. Probably why when there was a job thrown our way she was usually the first one to say yes. The thrill of the hunt was not something so easily given up.

“Come on Alec, we don’t want to miss your flight,” she says with a wink and I barely hold myself back from rolling my eyes at her. For an assassin she really was a shit actress.

“We still have a few minutes, I’d like to grab some food before my flight,” I tell her, setting my bag by the front door and heading back to the kitchen where Axel has River in a headlock.

“I told you to stop eating my protein bars!” Axel shouts, messing up River’s bright blue hair with his hand.

“I swear to God Axel it wasn’t me this time!” River whines and I just shake my head and smirk knowing that my shy mate was the one stirring the stink this morning. He told me it was his way of getting back at River for all his comments. I personally thought River was getting off too easily but I let Sam have his fun.

“Hey Dell, you might want to get in here and calm the zoo,” I shout over my shoulder. I swear I hear her groan from where I left her sitting in Clay’s lap in the living room. The stomping of her tiny feet across the floor has all her mates looking up and then scattering before she even enters the kitchen.

For some tough tatted-up men, they were mere pussy cats when it came to my little sister. Something that never failed to fill me with pride whenever I witnessed it.

“Thank you,” I say looking around the now empty kitchen. With all of them running for cover I could actually get to the food and coffee that I was dying for.
